Understanding the CMS eRx Incentive Program
The Electronic Prescribing Incentive Program was created in 2008 by CMS to encourage e-prescribing and prevent medication errors. The first five years of the program gave incentive payments to eligible professionals that e-prescribed for Medicare patients. The penalty phase of this program has begun and eligible providers that have not submitted at least 10 prescriptions electronically by June 30, 2012 will receive a 1.5% penalty on all Medicare Part B services in 2013.
